The 5th grade class studies ancient civilizations; Egypt, the Middle Ages, ancient Greece, and ancient Rome.

As part of our social studies and language arts curriculum, the 5th grade presents three full debates during the year. Two of these are publicly held debates with audiences of up to one hundred.

The 5th grade goes on many field trips. Our biggest trip is Nature's Classroom. Other field trips for 5th grade are the Cloisters, St. John's Cathedral, the Higgins Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Our Medieval Projects were excellent! Pairs of 5th graders worked on researching a particular topic on the Middle Ages, then made a presentation to the class.
